hi folks,

i'm hoping my question doesn't generate too many "try this 3rd party product" replies. can any of you offer advice on how to directly import data from an Exchange server to a SQL2K database?

in my particular example, there's a *public* contacts folder which is periodically updated by users. i'm trying to include this folder data in an external application i'm writing - it'd be nice to have a scheduled DTS package that handled this.

so far the only info i've been able to find is about the EXOLEDB driver, but this incorporates solutions for cases where the SQL instance and Exchange are running on the same box.

any pointers are greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

hi J,

thanks for the advice, however, the dsexport.exe tool with the Exchange SDK appears to be specific for Exchange 5.5 - i'm using 2K. your suggested solution sounds great though. i was actually doing this in a much longer fasion:

~ scheduled a VBA script within Outlook to export fields/values from a view of a the public folder - same as preparing for mail merge. this was the only immediate way to get access to specific fields into a static txt file.
~ a scheduled DTS package imports the data from this txt shortly thereafter.

although this works, it's pretty ridiculous and lends itself to all kinds of problems. the more i look into this, the more it seems like the answer lies in MAPI (ugh). tx again
