Hi,

Can I have more than one web site within IIS on Win2k running at once?

It seems this can only happen if they each have a seperate TCP set up for each.

If this is the norm, then that's fine, but which TCP ports should I use (or which range is best to use?)

Otherwise, can I start multiple websites all on port 80? Would this be better? How would you guys host multiple websites off your Win2k Server?

Thanks for any help. It will be much appreciated!

Answer to your question is yes you can run multiple site on the same server on the same port. There is a few ways you can do it.

Most people do it by using host headers, when setting up a new site you are given the option to enter a host header name ie. test.mysite.com it doesnt have to be the time it can be anything you want it to be.
When a person connects to the server to get to the site the server will check the header to see what site it is looking for. If you dont enter a host header it will always goto the default site. You can have as many different headers as u want for each site or different sites.

Another way is to use virtual folders where everyone has the same domain name ie. but at the end there is or you just set the virtual folders to point at where the data is stored on your server.

Wow! Ace, thanks. That's was extremely informative and has cleared up a few things for me!

Once again, thanks!

As with the host headers, you can run on different ports. I do this on my personal sites actually because I have more than 1 web server, and only 1 external IP. I use zoneedit.com for DNS hosting, and they support redirection making it all transparent to users.
