Hello,
Just purchased a ml350 g3 server, and wanted to use 2 Western digital 20GB hard drives (mirrored) as the c: drive. Compaq support says that the internal IDE controller will not support IDE hard drives (only the cd-rom). So I bought a pci IDE raid control and wanted to set it up that way. The data drive (d: drive) will be setup with three compaq 72.4GB SCSI drive using RAID5. The problem I am experiencing is that when the system boots I get the F1 to continue prompt, it then tries to boot off of the Win2k server cd. After I hit F1 to continue I get two short beeps and then a black screen (it never boots off the cd). Is it possible to use IDE hard drives in a proliant ml350 server. I have used the smart start cd and every time I use it I get the error 59 which says I need to delete the drives and start over. Have any of you tried to use IDE hard drives in a ml350 (or similar type)? This is my first experience with compaq servers as we have used HP netservers in the past. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What Compaq mean is that THEY do not support using IDE hard drives on the internal IDE controller - that doesn't mean it doesn't work of course. -----------------------------------------------------

Problem solved!! I had the jumpers on the hard drive's set to cable select. (duhh!) Once I corrected this error I was able to load windows 2000 server. When I had talked to compaq support they said specifically that the onboard ide controller does not support ide hard-drives. The guy was kind of rude and was a little short with me. Thanks for pointing out this could be done.
