I need to find a method to create a report to print a no. 10 envelope in Access 2002. The application will be distrubited and therefore must not require user intervention other than clicking on a button.

In the report designer, I choose File->Page Setup->Print Setup. Choose #10 Envelope and set the orientation to landscape.

This will not take and changes back to a 8.5 x 11 sheet when you close the Page Setup-Print Setup window.

Hi, what you're describing should work. I do the same thing. You might try going back to design view and move a control or two around a little and then set page setup for #10 envelope and save it. That may work.

Hope that helps.

I think the autocorrect function might be causing this. Go to Tools-->Options-->General and make sure the Peform name AutoCorrect is unchecked. Hope that helps.

Davis and Kein,

I tried moving the controls to no avail.

I unchecked the Perform name AutoCorrect box. Same result. As soon as I click OK and close the Print Setup windows and reopen it the setting has changed back to 8.5 x 11. Does not matter if in protrait or landscape, does not matter the size of the report.

Hi, The only other thing I can suggest is to try building another report. Perhaps someone else has an idea.

I have done that more than one time and in a different mdb file. The results are always the same.

you can also use the regular letter size and play with the margens in lasndscape, I have a report working perfectly just like that and printing envelopes, takes some time to be set up but ones is runing does not give problems

I may have forgotten to mention that this is a mde file that is distributed and I have no way to know which way their printer handles envelopes. So I believe that I would need an envelope format that is recognized as such by what ever printer they may be using.

I have continued to follow your "envelope dilemma" posts because I remained curious as to why you couldn't get things to work. The oddity seems to be: "If other people are able to make this work with Access 2002, then why won't it work on your computer?"

And I'm sure that by now you are frustrated to no end. I know I would be.

So I am wondering a couple of things...
1. I don't know what other options there are in Access 2002. My Access 2000 has several, among which are Monarch envelope, C5 envelope, DL envelope etc. Have you tried one of those others?
2. What is your printer?

Tom

Hi Tom,

Yes it is frustrating, but not as much as dealing with Microsoft Tech (non)Supp[ort ;-)

I have tried other formats, both other envelopes and page sizes. I have tried in portrail and landscape. I have tried with the default and specific printers. No matter what combinations of settings the page always returns to 8.5 x 11 as if it were being over written by some default parameter.

My default printer is a Lexmark.

Okay, one last thought. Would it make sense to re-install Office? In Office 2000, when you go to re-install, there is a "repair original installation" option. Maybe Office 2002 has this as well. It's a long shot but maybe something didn't install correctly.

But even a long shot is worth a shot when you're at your wits end.

As a last resort, take a hammer to 'er! If you haven't already!

Tom

Tom,

I am feeling like a real fool. I did as you suggested and reinstalled Office using the repair function. Now it seems to be working. When I select the No. 10 envelope from the File - Print Setup - Page it keeps the selection.

Thank you and the others for your help.

Norm

Hey, Norm...the important thing is that we found something that worked!!!

And you didn't even have to take a hammer to 'er.

Whew! Bet you're glad that one is out of the way. I was beginning to think that Murphy had taken up permanent residence in your computer.
