I need a little direct for learning about Web Services! 1

My current employer wants me to learn more about creating XML Web Services to some of our VB.Net and MS Access applications that are currently running on a local network.
Besides learning up on XML Web services do I also need to include ASP.Net and ADO.Net? Any references or good books I can find on the internet that will help me delve into this subject?
