We have a few of the Nortel IP Phone 1140Es and I want to use the left blue light on the top to indicate that they are on a call. It would be an easy way for people who walk in to see that you are on a call. For example, I use a Bluetooth headset, my office door is behind me, so they sometime come in. They don't know that I'm on a call and start speaking until I point at my headset.

I know the red one on the right is message waiting I have never seen the one on the left come on, other than when I reboot the phone because the Bluetooth is messing up again.

Thanks,
Ben

As far as I know, the blue lamp on the left is not supported under the CS1000 platform. It will light up when rebooting or during firmware updates. This is just a limitation of the platform. Nortel/Avaya hasn't exposed this to the CS1000.

However, on the Nortel CS2000 / Genband C20, the blue lamp does precisely as you are requesting; the blue lamp will light up anytime there is an active call. See the photo below, showing my CS2000 hosted 1140e on an active call.

Thanks. It would of course be that we are one version behind for that to work. Well we are in the planning stages to replace the system anyway. So will have to make sure the new one can do that. :)

Thanks,
Ben

Haahah very funny... Since I have 1140, I was looking for the same feature as Ben is looking for right now ... until I found out that CS1000 does not support that.

Hey there!

A lot of the former Nortel designers now work for E-MetroTel and are continually enhancing the Unistim features of the 11xx phones.

They have actually made the blue light work, but in the E-MetroTel setup, the blue light illuminates for a central voicemail box.

Say you have 4 phones that share a mailbox, the blue light lights up on all the other phones that share the mailbox.

Rob, How do I attach a photo on tek tips? I can show you all how it works.

As far I know, you have to upload image to the third party and give the URL by clicking image icon on the post.
When needed, I upload to google drive ... very useful.

You have many choices.

Hope that help's
