How to get access to a remote sql server 2000

Dear readers,

We have the next situation:

Pc-A: Installed XP
Ip address 192.168.10.1
Installed sql server 2000

Pc-B: Installed XP
Ip address 192.168.10.2

Both computers can be pinged and directories can be shared from pc-A < > B.

Installing sql server 2000 on the pc-B, choosing for “remote computer”, when browsing the pc-A name is showing.

Filling in the name of the pc-A or the ip address of pc-A and going further, an error message is popping up with the text: “Access denied”

Can someone please advise us how to get acces to for sql server to the pc-A sql server

You need a login/password, either network or SQL Server, that allows access to the instance on pc-A. So you need a login created on SQL, either from Active Directory or a SQL login, that gives the logged-in user access from pc-B.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Installing sql server 2000 on the pc-B, choosing for “remote computer”". I thought SQL was already installed on pc-A. Do you mean the client tools?

Hello philhege and others,

We changed the properties of the local server on pc-A, tab security: Authentication from "Windows only" to "SQL server and windows"! There was access.

Today we are going further with installation because there are some other problems.
