How does NBX work

Can someone point me to a sort of detailed explanation of how the NBX system works?

I can find some very vague stuff on 3Comms site, but I would like to know what happens from when you pick up the receiver on your phone, to when you hang up.

We have an NBX system and I cannot find anything on how it works.
