I've got my domain's user drives mapping to \\server\share\%username%. This is accomplished through the profile tab of their domain user account. I select the 'Connect' radio button in the 'Home Folder' section, and input something like, '\\server\share\jsmith' to connect to the U:\ drive.

This seems to work on all our machines, except a few laptops, all of which sporadically map the user's U:\ drive to '\\server\share' instead.

If anyone's got a clue as to why, or how to fix it, I would love to hear it.

Thanks--

The setting you are using is a legacy setting for integration with NT4. I'd do away with it and simply map your drives via login script.

Uh, I found the problem... The URL that had the answer was here...

and basically said it was a problem due to the workstation not waiting for the network to be fully initialized. Enabling the GPO setting 'Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System/Logon > Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon' is supposed to fix it.

Happy Holidays, all!
