I would be very grateful for some help with what are probably very basic settings on our HiPath 3550 system with Optipoint 500 handsets.

We are on target to replace our whole system in about a month's time, but as so often happens, our HiPath failed last week. I got it back up and running again by replacing the power unit, but in the process lost all the original settings. I've managed to set the language back to English (phew!), set the system date/time and few other bits and pieces.

The current state is that all the external calls, including Direct Dial numbers are coming in to the base handset (ext 100) and we can manually forward calls to the relevant departments. Is it possible, using Assistant T or Expert Mode on the handset to set up the Direct Dial numbers again - that is so that the numbers go automatically through to the various departments rather than the Receptionist having to manually forward them.

Many thanks.

Do you have a .kds file backed up somewhere?
The kds file is a download of the system when it was working properly.

Sadly not because someone else was maintaining it for us and we are no longer using their services.

Pity, maybe you could ask them for a copy?
Log on to the Manager
go to 'setup station'
in there the call number is the internal number and the did is the incoming number from the carrier.

If you don't have the manager you can follow the download here:

Thank you for your help.

I had considered using the software to make changes, but couldn't see how to connect my laptop to the HiPath unit. Sorry, this is all new to me, as no doubt you can tell.

Easiest way is a serial cable, standard 9 way F to 9 way F
You can adjust the speed in the menu but try 9600 first.

OK. Many thanks. Will have a go in the morning.

Hi sdcsu

I tried to connect to the unit but when I tried to transfer the current settings onto the laptop it said Status: Checking cards... Error. Interface is already in use.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Open Manager
Options / Program Options
Communications Settings
Interface V24 COM1 19200
Apply

Click on File / Transfer
Direct
Read/Write database System -> PC

That will download what is on the system to your PC
If it does not communicate then change the 19200 above to 9600 and try again.

After a download, if you make changes to the downloaded database then you can go back to the Transfer window
and send in just the changes
PC -> System (Click on delta mode just to send in the differences not the full database)

Thanks for this. I also found this and pressing the reset as they suggest did the trick. The settings that worked were 9600, 8, N and 1.

I've managed to get a download of the existing settings and I've successfully updated a few things, such as extension names, so I know that the upload is working. However, when I change a DID it still doesn't ring on the correct extension. Is there some other setting that I need to change?

Thank you for your help.

The DID depends on the incoming carrier.
They may be presenting 4 digits or 3 digits, you will have to ask them.
Or you could try, just put in the last 4 digits of your direct dial in number and see does it work, then try the last 5 or the last 3 digits of the direct dial in number.
