I am running Windows XP (Home Edition) and having trouble with some sort of Spyware. I have Ad-Aware and Spybot installed and scan on a weekly basis. Antime I open Internet Explorer a few minutes later the CPU spikes to 100% and sometime another browser window pop-up and hangs the system. Any suggestions.

I am up to date with SP2 and all the latest patches. I am running Norton Internet Security as well.

Why not try installing firefox and see if it does the same thing...

I would download yet another tool: The latest MS Antispyware, which is called Windows Defender, and run it in realtime and set up scheduled scans. It's free, but you should know it's also in Beta. It catches some things other tools do not.

Check your downloaded applications, though. If you have anything that you don't recognize, you can remove it. Go to Tools/Internet Options/General click the Settings Button. Click View Objects. You'll probably see the typical stuff here, Java, Shockwave, Microsoft stuff. All of them can be removed with no ill effects, other than having to install again next time you visit a web page that requires activex or something.

I would check for malware as well:

Webroot Spysweeper

Download it here:

Webroot Spysweeper 14 day Trial

Update the defs and do a sweep.

Also check this out:

Ewido download:

Update it and run a complete scan.

I would also check it with some other virus scanners just to make sure.

Best regards.

Erik
