People in the office are complaining of static on some of the lines. I've already called the carrier. Anything else I can check??

all phones or just certain phones ?

all lines or just certain lines ?

have you checked the lines with a buttset or a standrd phone before they reach the MICS to see if it is a carrier problem or a inside problem ?

I would ask the users to start keeping a log of calls with static

definately concur with Skip's log of calls otherwise you will just hear that its "almost all the calls".

If voting could really change things, it would be illegal.

I've made some test calls and have found the outgoing calls on the POTS are okay but when they flow over to the t1 the static is sporadic? I spoke to the Carrier and they are saying they see no problems. I can test the POTS lines with a buttset but how can I test the T1? If the static is on the T1 wouldnt we hear static on all the lines that flowover to the t1? AAHHH...

Sounds like the T1 may be taking some "hits" or a degraded signal. This can be caused by a variety of things. There should be a way to check for error stats in the Norstar and that might help. Is the static more like a chatter or an audio distortion or break up? Check your wiring to make sure all connections are solid and nothing is loose or corroded on terminals and connectors. The T1 ckt that is delivered to you does it use an HDSL NIU? Or is it a "repeatered" T1? Bad repeaters can cause this also. Telco or service provider should be able to run some stress tests to verify the integrity of the T1 ckt. When this type of test is performed the T1 is out-of-service for the duration of the test. You could perform some tests if you have some T1 test equipment like the TTC T-Berd. It can monitor and test all kinds of T1 activity with or without Telco's help. But if you are not fluent in T1 you need to find some one who is.

Hope this helps!

Put a CAP on your system & program the channels on it. Then you can start eliminating problems.

Ask the users to note what line they are on when it occurs. Time it occurs, outbound or inbound, local or long distance (if you use different vendors).
