We purchased a Plantronics H132N headset with an RJ11 connector. Can we use the headset plugged directly into the headset jack or do we have to buy an adapter or amplifier? I programmed the "Headset Status" and "Headset Hang Up" buttons but we're not having much luck getting the headset to work properly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated -- I'm having to learn the WINSPM and Merlin Magix via OJT (i.e., "trial and error!"). [neutral]

Your best bet is to contact the Plantronics support or Sales department (the number should be listed on their pamphlet) and confirm with them that the headset you purchased can be used with the telset and if you need one of their adapters.

I don't think there are any Plantronics sets that can be used with Lucent/Avaya without an amplifier. Sorry!

On the Magix TDL sets(4412, 4424, 4424LD+, etc.) there is a "headset" jack on the bottom of the phone, next to the Handset jack. I don't know the model of the headset (I'm wires and pliers, not sales) but the headpiece plugs directly into that jack without a base or amplifier. I've had sucess with customers migrating from Partners to TDLs simply unplugging the headpiece from the Partner Base, and plugging it into the TDL headset jack.

Thank you for your responses. The headset, according to several websites, was supposed to be one that could plug in directly to the headset jack on the 4424 phone. Per our Merlin Magix instruction card, we programmed buttons for "Headset Status" and "Headset Hang Up" -- basically we have the headset working "partially."

We're beginning to think that maybe the headset is defective because the Operator can't hear the caller, but the caller can hear her, though she sounds distant.

Any additional thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Otherwise our next step will be to exchange the headset or purchase another model with the required attachment.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Plantronics makes a LU-HIC adapter that replaces the amplifier you usually purchase with their headsets. We've use it for our 4400 series telephones. The drawback is it doesn't allow for volume and mute control. Hope this helps.

Thank you Reggie -- I saw the adapter you mentioned and had planned to order it with the headset, but didn't. I was going to wait and see if the headset worked without it.

Do any of the buttons on the phone allow you to mute or control volume when you use the adapter?

Thanks again.

The "mute" and "volume" buttons on the phone itself do the job of the amplifier. This adapter is half the price of their M12 amplifier. I don't think you can go wrong with buying a few.
