Basically i have a Deskstar (IBM) 40gig hardrive. Now I had installed Windows 98 and I then installed a network card. Went to boot up computer after the restart and it stalled on the IDE detection screen. Now it has this on the end of what the hardrive should be called

ER40A45A

Now I dunno what the error is, but its defo sumthin to do with that. Also when i unplug the hardrive it gets past the IDE detection screen. But then when it tries to boot up it says to insert boot disk (as hardrive is not connected up).

So please if someone has had the same error please help me as I only bought the hardrive about 3 days ago.

thanks

Does it produce an error message when the hard drive is connected? Is the partition set to active? Did it ever successfully reboot into windows during the installation?

Remove the NIC card and boot up.If it makes it into windows, install the drivers for the NIC card then no reboot do a complete shutdown, install the NIC card and then boot up.It in theory should now boot and find the NIC and finish the install.
