I have a Gateway desktop and the harddrive continually writes to itself, it never stops, even when there are no processes running. I'm confident I don't have any viruses as I've run several Norton scans and even scnned with the free tool AVG.

I have run scandisk and defrag withhin the last week and still have the same questions. Yet even while running defrag it kept restarting because something was running that screwed it up (though it did eventually finish several hours later.

I've checked the registry and don't see much out of the ordinary in the software/run registry.

Thanks,

DJ
Any suggestions on where to turn.

THank you very much.

How much RAM does the system have, how many processes are running, how much disk space is available, what O/S are you running and what are the page file settings?

the most common problem i see with this is that m$'s findfast is running

you may want to check that, and take it out of startup if it is there
