node:[dir] $ gunzip 848u.tar.gz
848u.tar.gz: Value too large for defined data type
node:[dir] $

Any suggestions ?

System = SunOS
Release = 5.8

Try:

[tt]gunzip -c < 848u.tar.gz > 848u.tar[/tt]

I can't remember whether that works around it...

seems to be working , the file is 2.6 gig so its gona take a few a while

gunzip -c < 848u.tar.gz > 848u.tar

This command uses input output redirection then ?

you might want to gunzip/extract in one go:

gunzip -c < 848u.tar.gz | (cd /restore/to/this/path; tar -xf-)

or sth.

You may also consider the -z option of the GNU tar.

Hope This Helps, PH.
