Hi,

I work at a Help Desk for an organization. Recently, several people have called saying that they are being prompted to save changes to the Global Template every time they close WORD, even though they haven't made any changes. This started happening about 3 weeks ago.
Does anyone know what could have caused this to start happening? Could there be a virus of some kind?

Try looking at Tools, Options, Save tab, and make sure that 'rompt to save Normal template'is NOT checked.

As a default setting, we have that box checked on all of the PC's. We have been unchecking that box on the PC's that are having this problem while we try to figure out what is causing it. That does stop the prompt but we were concerned that changes may still be occuring to the template that we're not aware of.

Thank you for your reply.

Thanks again for your reply. I remoted some of the machines that are having this problem and none of them had any weird Macro entries. I did notice that they all had some software installed by one of our vendors. I'm going to pursue contacting them to see if this could possibly be related. Thanks again for your help.

Sounds like you might be on the right track....

To fix this problem, have the user do a search for their normal.dot file on their hard drive....when they locate it, have them delete it.

Open Word and it will create a new normal.dot template which will be fresh and clean just like it was the first time the program was used.

This is also a way to fix the program if the toolbars get messed up.
