i've been away from the database side of programming, (although it's so important) and i put mysql back onto my laptop...back when i was db programming, i was using mysqlcc to manipulate the database, but now it's no longer available.

phpmyadmin was recommended so i went looking for it and found tar and .gz files...is there an executable install option for phpmyadmin?

thanks for the help.

As the phpMyAdmin project page states, "phpMyAdmin is a tool written in PHP intended to handle the administration of MySQL over the Web." PHP scripts do not come in executable form.

From what platform are you trying to administer MySQL? If you need a Win32 executable, you might try HeidiSQL.
