OK, after the minimal installation my father has installed the neccessary RPM packages, except a few he can't find.

I don't know how to query RPM packages for a specific files (/lib/apr-utils and others) and I haven't got access to a Linux box. Any ideas??

Second problem: We were stupid enough to pick MD5 passwords during installation and now he can't use the old password file. How can he change that?? He found two PAM files with MD5 in them but it doesn't help if he just deletes MD5.

Ok, I managed to figure the RPM thing out. I tried calling the SuSE hotline but they're busy.

Ok, got through to support. He wasn't really interested in supporting me I think but he said that Linux had changed password type so that the old ones weren't supported.

Well, create 300 new accounts...

just out of curiosity, what do you mean "He wasn't really interested in supporting me "? I'm assuming you paid for suse support. I would think this would be excellent, since it's the only way suse makes money, right?

Well, he spoke in three word sentences for one.
And after I explained that I had installed 8.2 on a machine that used to have 6.0 and the old passwords didn't work, he immediately said "We don't support upgrades from 6.0!!" and shut up. (We hadn't upgraded and I didn't say we upgraded).

I'm not saying SuSE doesn't want to give support but this guy didn't give me a good impression. Maybe he had an off day??
