first "page" then "404"

This is a continuation of my problem stated in
thread65-489075 i couldnt find a way to change the title...

the problem is that my apache / php / mysql server at home is sometimes showing pages and sometimes not. in the "not" case it shows the page very briefly then goes to a 404 error (thanks to Wullie for noticing this) . my phpinfo is also not working

Can you post your httpd.conf here?

It looks like it maybe a problem in that, I really can't think of anything else that might cause this.

I never picked up on the fact that it referenced the htaccess directly, using that the htpasswd wouldn't be secured.

about the ht thing, i dont have my htpassword in any folders where ppl can reach from the net. so the full htacces worked fine for me.

i put the above config in the httpd.conf and got the following error in IE on all my hosted pages:

ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved

ok so i got it working again but i am still having the origional problem

with one interesting discovery:

the main support page that i have made shows if i dont give it a language var, but full of errors related to the no language var, :
