I have a user here that has Norton Internet Security on a Sony Vaio. When the Firewall is installed he cant browse any network resources at all. We have a firewall on the router but he uses this laptop at home so needs the Firewall for home use. The error he gets is, please check that you have the necessary rights to access the resource, blah blah blah!! User is memeber of admin etc so the problem isnt there. Once I remove the firewall all is ok, he can browse and access the network resources.

What I need to know is can I set the Firewall up so I can include the IP addresses of the servers so he can get access to these servers.

Here is the setup we have:-

Users = XP Pro (DHCP assigned)
Servers = Win 2K (Static)

This is what I would do:

- Remove his firewall (turn it off in XP)
- Tell user to get a router

I highly recommend that anyone with high speed internet should have a router between them and the internet.

Howdy,

You don't say which vesion of NIS he has but I have 2003 and here's how to do it on that. I would assume other versions would be similar if not the same.

- Launch NIS (Norton Internet Security)
- Click on 'Personal Firewall'
- Click the 'Configure' button on the right
- Click the 'Home Networking' tab
- Click the 'Add' button near the bottom
- You can add your server IP's either individually or by
adding a range of IP's
- Click 'OK' then 'OK' again
- Close NIS and test

Having typed this, I have just thought, this might only allow the servers to access shared on the laptop but worth a go anyway I think, you never know, it might just work.

Hope this helps
