I have begun using a CD for backing up certain files. When I burn the files, the filename appears properly. However, when I open the CD on my MAC, the filenames have been changed and are always six characters long. What's going on here? Thank you.

This is not the exact scientific explanation but windows and mac each have different file naming systems and different other systems, in fact they are very different. When you burn a cd in windows, it is encoded with and for windows. When you put the cd in a mac, mac os does its thing and you come up with what you are seeing.
I dont know if there is any way around that problem or not.
