I have a question regarding the fax service within Windows. I have it setup and working just fine.

I have one phone line to use for phone and fax calls. I also have a answering machine that will pick up after 6 rings. Is there a way for a computer via hardware or software to differentiate between a phone call and a fax call? What sort of options do I have with only one phone line?

Thanks for your help.

There are devices that will send a call to the right device depending on what type of call it is. I think they are called call diverters.

Distinctive ring is what i have heard it referred to as. that is something your local phone company does for you it creates a different ring for data and voice transmissions and the fax software can pick up on that. thats what they do around here not sure if it is available every where though.
