In Excel I try to access a file that is 4 steps into the folder tree (Drive/Folder/Folder/FOLDER). Every time I try to access FOLDER, Excel locks up. The FOLDER is in a networked server and it contains over 2,000 folders inside. Would the problem be that that folder contains so much info(5GB) that Excel cannot access them at that instance? I can access the FOLDER going through My Computer.

yes SP4 is installed in both. The other techs and I suspect that because there are over 2,000 files the program hangs up. We suggested that the users should split the files into separate folders. Good idea??

It would certainly help things.
But if the filestore is NTFS 2,000 should not be an issue. I would defragment the MFT of the volume. See my note from the XP Forum on this issue: thread779-1270779

We've decided to break up the folder into parts. Seems to work. Thanks for your help.

You may want to look at offline files see if its on or off.
