Email Queueing Slowly

We are having a problem with emails getting stuck in Qmail.

We have changed the config so that there are now 101 folders in the mess directory so theoretically it should have no problem sending up to 101000 emails at a time.

However mailings are extremely slow to the point where they almost stop (1 message every 5 mins).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What does "stuck" mean?
Can you verify that your DNS, etc. services are working?
Are you sure that qmail-send has sufficient memory to function?
Are you sending larger attachments that increase the processing time?

What do your logs say?
