hi,

I am using crystal version 10.

I have inserted a sub-report and i also have to drill down 2-3 levels down.

So when i click on the bar chart in page 1 it takes me to the sub-report -- *** BUT this is not clickable/drill down YET.

I have to click * anywhere on this un-drillable sub-report to take me to an identical page where it's now drillable to couple more levels.

IS this the way a drill down sub-report is processed??

Will this sort of click once on a sub-report to go to the actual sub-report where you can actually drill down ** confusing to a user ??

please advise
bob

I think you're asking about the status of subreports. The subreport is displayed within the main report, but you need to have it displayed separately before you can drill down within the subreport.

If that's not it, please make it clearer what you're asking.

It helps to give your Crystal version - 8, 8.5, 9, 10, 11 or whatever. Methods sometimes change between versions, and higher versions have extra options. In this case, it probably makes no difference.

you said "---but you need to have it displayed separately before you can drill down within the sub-report"

My question is this:

The user does not what a sub-report is , so how or what does a CR designer say on the sub-report displayed page -- aka -- click here ????? to see ?? and click again to see more details ??? (user would see the sub-report page twice: once when it is displayed and then he clicks on it to go to the sub-report page again where he can * now actually drill down)

thanks

Yes, that's unavoidable. Unless you can find some other way to perform the subreport function in the main report. Sometimes this can be done with 'Stored Procedures', writing a data selection in SQL, if you use SQL with Crystal.
