you aren't able to create a folder on the desktop and call it aux?

Aux is a reserved name that dates back to the DOS days and continues in Windows. It is another name for COM1:.
The following are the reserved names: CON, AUX, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, PRN, and NUL
