I'm working on setting up a page, but right above the div that contains the search and weather, a space appears.

Here's the page.

If I don't set the height of the searchWeather div, no background appears. When I do, it's there, but I get a white break.

I've tried validating and only got some alt tags and such missing - nothing serious.

Ideas?

thanks

My first guess is that the height of the layers are greater than the images thus leaving a padding/margin exposed. You are setting your images to TOP/CENTER, this explain the white line.

Try (a) reduce the layer height, (b) set height to auto

A quick and dirty fix is to set background-color to one of the following #E8E8E8 or #F0F0F0

These colors are very similar to your background and it just may work ...

Hope this points you in the right direction!

Thanks, southbeach

Working through changing the heights to auto helped. Then I removed the containing div for the weather and search and applied the background to them. Works now.

Glad to hear it!

I just checked and I am still seeing the white line ... Does this mean that you made changes on your development box and not on your ~/TEST/ server?

Thanks for the star :)

Yes - I just reloaded a moment ago.

Welcome!
