Disk failure error message

After a power failure my computer could not start until I changed the power supply.But,after changing the power supply the system could not boot and gave me disk failure error message.Important thing I noticed was that while the hard drive was configured as the first boot device, it reverted to the cd rom as the first booting device and when it does not detect any cd in the device, it gives the disk failure error message.
I used the recovery console and the chkdsk utility but the problem still exists.
Any idea.

Could be the BIOS has got corrupted if it will not save the changes that you have made.
Have you checked that the CMOS battery is OK? Make sure that the time & date in the BIOS are correct.
