Im working with XPpro and XPmedia

I tested on win7 and everything worked fine, but suddenly i realize I should have tested on what i was working on :p

Im trying to lock down an account so it will only be able to look at 1 folder on a network computer(no domain..just WG), and was wanting to deny access to all programs but one...and wanting to deny all access to the computer ( C:\ ) so if they found a way passed the usual (removed) navigation tools..they couldnt roam around C: but i cant deny C: without muckin up the account from running.

w7 had a option in the parental controls that would lock C: but still allow the account to run...and has a list of installed programs to allow/deny...but im struggling in XP for the same effect...

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

I had been lookin at the MS SteadyState but read lots of bad experiences people were having with it

it sounds like a solid idea and solution and would be my first choice solution if it were out long enough to have the major bugs worked out

but in all bad reviews there are the content users out there that havnt taken the time to post praise..an hopefully ill fall in the latter category

and hearing it in tek-tips gives it creditability..so thanks for the suggestion lemon

I've been using it for years without any problems.

I've used it a few times as well with no issues. You may have to play around a bit to find the right balance of security vs. functionality, but given how easy it is to setup and configure (not to mention free) it's a must have.

Why I have I never heard of this before???? I could really "fix" a lot of problems (users) with this.

I can vouch for Steady State too (for what my opinion is worth). We used it to lock down 4 pc's in an 'internet cafe' area at the Chamber of Commerce I worked at, worked a treat... like cdogg says, it takes some tweaking to get the balance right but it's well worth the effort.

I used to have a handle on life... but it broke. Cpt. Red Bull
