I've been developing an application for a while now and I've split the application into two mdb's, data and forms/reports. To my surprise I noticed that the form/report mdb increased its size to 15 MB. I ran compact and repair and the size went down to 1 MB. Why is this? Will it continue to increase when people begin working with it?

Have you set things up to "Compact on Close"?

You could do that for both the Front End and the Back End.

Rauken,
You haven't told us anything about your application other than the fact that it is split and people are using it.

Ok it's an application that exists of maybe 25 forms, a couple of reports, 20+ tables. Very small amount of data is stored. The main table might hold 700 posts.

It's an application that lets a number of companies enter future projects that they think other companies might be able to co operate on. The application imports all the projects from the companies and it has function that tries to find projects suitbable for co operation. The user can look at the data in whatever way they want to find matches.

When you state "imports all the projects", does this mean you are importing records into the front end file? Are all users opening the same front end or do they have their own?

Ah this is a single user application. Each company has one person who administrate their database, no one is online. Then they export their projects into a mdb file which is sent to the master database administrator who merges all the databases together.

It's during my development process I've noticed that the database size increasing.

Are you doing anything with images in tables, forms, or reports? Are you adding and deleting lots of records?

No images. During my development process sure I'm adding, deleting but it's such small amounts of data. If Acces hangs which has happened a couple of times can that play a role?

But it's not the mdb who holds the data that is increasing in size just the form mdb. I use Access 2003 and I'm developing in 2000 mode.

Thanks for the article I'm sure I'll find my answer.
