Is there a function which allows u to find the last day of a month? can't seem to find any.

does it mean i have to write my own function?

If you have a date, change day to 01, add 1 to the month, then subtract 1 from the entire date. Date functions "normalize" the date. I do not know your format so look at DateAdd, DateSerial and DatePart.
