Hi,

I'm fairly new to Illustrator and have been tasked with using it to create a brochure. I have done this before and although not the perfect app for this task it did the job.

A problem that I have stems from the previous brochure that I created using Illustrator and that is bullets and numbering. I would really like to use custom (my own image files) bullets but cannot find a way to do it.

Perhaps this just isnt possible and i'm using the wrong app for the brochures, however I dont really have much of a choice... unless you can recommend something that I may have access to...??

Please help!

As long as it's a vector, you can use an image as a bullet. Just place it into the Ai doc and drag it into place - in front of the text. Then just clone it and move as necessary.

Ai also comes with hundreds of objects that can be used as bulletts. Take a look at Window menu/ Brush libraries or Symbol libraries. Various "arrow" libraries are one example of useful bulletts. You can just drag them to the doc. They can be manipulated like any other graphic element in the doc. You can also make anything you want and save that as a brush or symbol. Just select the object and pick 'new brush" or "new symbol" from the flyout menu on either the brushes or symbol window. Then save as a library so you don't lose it.

AI actually makesa great brochure layout app except fot its one page limitation. If the brocure is only one piece of paper with a fold or multi-fold.

Adobe Indesign is far better for multi page brochures (the interface is very similar to AI) but it ain't cheap.

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed reply.

I have been using images as bullets but was hoping there was another way to do it as alignment is always an issue for me, does anyone have any tips for distributing the images between lines of text easily and placing them in the correct position as bullets?

I'm trying to purchase In-design now but it may not happen.
