I'm a DMS guy who happens to have to maintain a CS1000 that is over an hour from my site I don't know much about. A vendor is asking if it can accept digital trunks (SDN-PRS) I've never heard of SDN-PRS. Right now all of my DIDs and COTs are analog and I have two PRI's that attach my CS1000 to my DMS. Without having to drive down there and look, what is the easiest way to tell if I can accept digital trunks for my DIDs and COTs vs the analogs I have now? Any info will be greatly appreciated!!!

If you have two PRI circuits the quick answer is yes you can support digital trunking. You may need some hardware. Are you sure they didn't say ISDN/PRI? NI-2 would be an issue if you have an older system, that option wasn't available.

Hope this helps.

Janaya,

Thank you for your response. The SDN-PRS was second hand info through an email I got. I know what ISDN-PRI is and if that is what they meant..they need to get slapped. When you said extra hardware, would I need a digital trunk card or something along those lines for the trunks to terminate too? If we were to go PRI for the DIDs and COTS, would they terminate in the PRI card that my PRI T-1s go to or would they need to terminate to another type of card? Please forgive my lack of knowledge on this swith. Thank you agian.

i think SDN is Software Defined Network (4ESS) and PRS is Primary Rate Access maybe that is what they are talking about????

ISDN-PRI makes more sense ....

What type of system is at the other end? Is it an Option 11 system or a full Meridian 61/81 system? If Option 11, you would need a 1.5MB PRI card with Dchannel Daughterboard, or easier to get a TMDI card. You would need an available slot in the first cabinet. Then you would install there. If it is a 61/81 sytle system, you would need an NT5D12AH dual PRI card and an available network slot.

then you program the PRI and they can port all the COTS numbers and your DID's over the single PRI circuit.

It is an 81..I have a 2 dual PRI cards installed in they system now. I do believe only one is active. It holds my two Tie trunks that I have between my PBXs. The other card, I believe in Core 0 is plugged in, but has nothing going to. When you "available network slot" are you talking a physical slot in the shelf to insert a card or is it a software thing? If I have an active dual PRI card in place already, will that hold another T-1 or is it dual because it only holds two T-1s?
