Hi experts,
I am running CE9 and in recent days i have noticed the CPU on our W2K Enterprise box is constantly at about 30% load. Looking deeper this appears to be attributed to the process crystalAPS.exe

I can't explain why this is suddenly consuming resource as it this has not been a problem to date.

Any suggestions welcome...

regards.

I just checked mine and if no one is logged in or running anything it is at 0. Do you have reports scheduled or something?

Check to see if anyone is connected and if they have been for a long time. There could be a hung connectiong causing it to consume CPU.

Also, there could be a runaway thread or something. How long has the server been up and running? It may simply be that there were some abnormal connection breaks or thread closures so they didn't shut down properly and the result is this rougue thread consuming CPU.. May want to reboot if the powers that be will allow.

Thanks for your response.
I have rebooted but to no joy.

Have you checked your scheduled reports or the number of connected users? Some user may have scheduled a bunch of reports to run or something to that effect.

If you are on windows I believe it is 'pview' a utility you can install that will allow you to check the threads. You should be able to find the one that is using all of the CPU and that should give you some indication as to what is going on.

How fast is the box and how big is your installation. Could the system simply be underpowered for what you are trying to do and it is just trying to keep up with scheduled reports even if there are just a few?

No, the box is adequately powered and this problem has only occured in the last 2 weeks. It has run for the previous 12 months without issues.

thanks for yor suggestions so far.
