Hi,

Is it possible to create executables using VB such that they can run as background services under NT?

Yes, Check out the following links in MSDN:

INFO: Running Visual Basic Applications as Windows NT Services

HOWTO: Use NTSVC.OCX from Visual Basic

It's fairly straight forward using the NTSVC.OCX, there are full instructions. I have successfully done quite a few applications that run really well as services.
Microsoft don't actually support VB applications running as services, but they tell you how to do it!!
Be aware if you call ActiveX Exe's from from a service written in this way, it can cause GPF's.

Have fun,

Madlarry
