Hi everyone,

If I set my computer case on its side, is it bad for it? I guess what i'm really asking is that, is it bad for the hard drives to be working on their side?

No problems with the hard drives. But you probably don't have a CD/DVD that is happy on it's side, at least if you try to use it.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

A few points perhaps:

Some rom drives do have retaining tags for sideways operation (they do tend to be older drives though)

Cooling may be compromised? towers are designed to take advantage of natural thermal convection (hot air rises) I guess this would only be critical with a hot system (something like a 500 series P4 etc)

Side vents blocked?

Not only heat but dust as well, especially if your computer is sitting on carpet. I noticed more dust bunnies more frequent when I had a PC on it's side. If its sitting on a desk or on a hard floor this would probably be less of an issue.

Cheers
