I have the feeling I am only getting 7gb or so on my 8mm 160m tapes. I am using ufsdump and vxdump commands but am unaware of the compression switches if there are any using these commands. The hardware I am using is an 8mm 8705DX drive which asks for 8mm, 160m tapes. My commands currently read something like this...
/usr/sbin/ufsdump 0fu kingkong:/dev/rmt/0n /dev/vx/dsk/opt

Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you!

have you already try:
ufsdump 0ufc ...., or /dev/rmt/0cn

ot maybe you are running into bug id 4101574 "ufsdump to 8705DX 8mm tape drives fails when using drive data compression", if this is the case you will need to upgrade do at least firmware rev 0090 (it solves bug id 4101574).

Hope this help,

Regards,

Carlos Almeida.

...sorry I posted wrong, bug ID 4101574, exist on firmware
<= rev 0090, and has been solved on firmware rev >= 0098.

Regards,

Carlos Almeida,

Thanks Carlos. I couldn't find any information on this bug at all. Where did you see it and find out about it? Also how do you find out the firmware rev? I'll keep looking. Thanks again.
steve
