Compact Nero

I keep all my drivers, system utiltities etc. on a single CD for convenience but the Nero Burning ROM package supplied with my Samsung SM-348B combo drive
is too bulky - 655MB - containing as it does much
other software from Ahead. Just copying the Nero
folder also doesn't work. I found very compact copies
of old versions of Nero at olversions.com but it asks
for a number.

I was once in the same boat. I used to keep burning all my drivers and stuff to a CD Disc. However, with technology rapidly advancing, it was time for me to advance too. I could no longer burn those items to a regular CD because of the size limitations. I eventually upgraded to a DVD burner (and USB flash drives work well too) and haven't had any problems since. The bad new is you will have to spend money for the upgrade, however the good news is with technology advancing so quickly, you can pick up a decent DVD burner for under $50.

Good point but for certain reasons I'd like to stay with CD's. Are there any other freeware smaller burners out there?

You can also compress your files using Winzip or WinRar to ensure you can fit everything on there. Of course you will need that program to unpackage your files again. If you are concerned about space, make sure you choose maximum compression within the options. It may not be much different that regular compression , but every little bit helps (no pun intended).

I think you could also download the trial from nero, its like 30 or 60 megs i think. It is the full program, just needs a serial number. Then just make sure you have your serial and your fine.
