Comp hangs after using explorer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My problem is that my computer hangs after using IE 5.0 for five minutes..pictures disappear, words are elongated to loooooooooooooooong thingys.....the msn messenger opens but the windows to chat dont...I tried to upgrade the IE to 6, but it says that computer needs to reboot after a previous installation to complete it...I rebooted my pc but to no avail..WORD and owerpoint ..after a month or so, refuse to save anything until i reinstall them again.....otherwise I have mathematica and origin on it and they work fine
can anyone help me fix this?

Try this to see if it helps.

Go to your system properties (either right mouse click on My Computer and select properties or on your keybpard hit your Windows key and Pause key at the same time)

Select the Performance tab and then click on Graphics. Set the Hardware Acceleration to none. Then try using IE again and see if it still locks up.

No guarantees but this fixed this same issue on IE5 and IE4 depending on your graphics card and drivers. joegz
