Hi :)

Hope you can help me.

When I turn seti off my pc squeaks. This seems backwards to me as my pc uses less cpu when seti is turned off (as seti uses all spare cpu oomph).

I wondered if anyone knows what the problem might be and whether it could be due to the heat - it's only happened the last two days.

Thanks in advance

Penny :)

define squeaks...

internal speaker?
normal speaker?
hardware squeaking?

If it's not the internal speaker then it sounds like your HDD is making a funny squeeking noise. It isn't by any chance an IBM Deskstar drive is it?

These drives are often refered to as Deathstars as they have a rep for failing. Having said that I have had a Deathstar for around 5years that makes funny squeeking noises every so often and had no problems at all.... Obviously I don't keep any important data on it as trust is something I have very little of where HDDs are concerned.
