Hey people.....

I have been a computer tech for three years now .... I am starting to get bored at what I do, I need something more interesting and was wondering if I should goto Tafe and get my cisco certification CCNA I think or goto Uni and do Computer Science..... I want to get into Internet Security cause it really interests me but don't know what path to take, what one is going to be more usefull in the future ....

Thank

Do Both! One step at a time...

As Mr. Gates would say, "Where do you want to go today"?

If you want to do more hands on, technical stuff, then go for a couple of certifications, then start part time at a local college.

If you want to be in a leadership position 5 years from now, the college degree will get you further. Who knows, the certification process may be changed in 5 years, and you may have to re-re-recertify.

OR, you could find a college that actually provides credited classes for the certifications you want.

But don't forget, a Bachelor's Degree goes a long way if you wish to move up the corporate ladder. Universities teach you about communicating and customer service too. Certifications won't do that.

Good luck!

I am doing a Bsc in Computing part time while I work full time - 2 of the modules at uni include the CCNA material and we do all the exams - I have completed 1 module (semesters 1 & 2 of Cisco), next year I will do the 2nd module (semesters 3 & 4) so I will get my certification as well as my degree (after another 3 years!!). Try and find one where you can do both together.
