I have a guy who wants me to code the pages in CFM and then use a mySQL database to run the show. The trouble is that I am in WinXPpro environment and dont have a local mySQL db server working for me. So I guess that means I would have to connect to the remote one while working. This is new turf for me, how hard is this going to be.

Also I should mention I am on dialup .. so I dont know if thats going to slow things down too badly or not.

Any advice would be crucial before we proceed.

Thnx

i think it is quite easy to setup a local MySQL data server on your windows xp machine, if that is where you are doing the development. then you can transfer your databases over to the new server when finished. Of course it may be easy to access the new data server but i have no idea if it is behind a firewall or such device that may make it difficult.

You can have MySQL up and running in min- do you also have CFMX running on the WinXP machine? Where do you do your testing?

You're on dialup? I'm sorry. ;)

NorthStarDA is right, setting up a mysql db is easy.. and given you're on dialup, its faster, you need to be able to test page load speeds and everything based just on the server load and that's the best method..

This is all assuming CF is installed on your XP machine..

If it is, its best to have the server local so connection times are immediate, you don't need timeouts for large data requests.

Well then I guess I am going to be setting up a local MySQL data server here on my machine. yes my developing environment is setup and I have CF MX working on my laptop here on IIS.

Where do I get the MySQL database server?
