is there a way - using the registry or otherwise - to totally disable the caps lock key?

Ah yes, one of lifes most sought after solutions. The dreaded Caps Lock.

Except for pulling up the cap and removing the plunger (which I have been known to do) get a 3rd party fix such as:

I get a kick out of some people WHO SEEM TO THINK CAPS LOCK IS A REQUIRED KEY TO TYPE MESSAGES!!!!!!!!!

These people definately need their caps lock disconnected.

>> people who think caps lock is a required key... i dont think ive ever used it before... what are these people doing with it?

There is a little program called REMAPKEY.EXE that comes with the Resource Kit that will allow you to map that key into oblivion. :) You could probably map it to be another ALT key, that shouldn't do much with an accidental press. :)
