hello firstly thanks for the advice given previously.
Now here is the problem.
I have just taken over a network at a school, it consists of a server running exchange conneted to the internet through an Intel express 8100 router conected to an Isdn line and a file/print server, if i ping the router from the exchange server I can see it, but if I ping from it from the other server or any workstation I can't see it, although I can access the internet from any machine, I am also unable to use ftp from any machine but the exchange sever.

Many thanks in advance

Can you ping another workstation on the local subnet? If so I would be willing to bet the 8100 is configured to filter packets for security. Might check into the 8100 configuration. [sig][/sig]

Is this your layout?
