I have a pretty serious problem... When I try to run any non-Microsoft setup.exe programs on my Windows 2000 server, the file will unpack (to the "temp" directory) and then nothing happens. The "setup.exe" process will be running in the task manager, but that's all (so I have to end the process manually). The files I've tried are HP LaserJet administration utilities and Norton Antivirus program files, both for Windows 2000.

I receive no error messages, nor are any logged.

I'm logged on with the Administrator account, and I have full controll of all the folders as far as I can see.

Any ideas? Not being able to install software on our server is going to be pretty problematic!

Thanks...

had the same trouble on w98 and w2k pro... rename the setup file to "x-setup.exe" or "j-setup.exe" or "samantha.exe" and it should work... JTB

Thanks, but I'm afraid that didn't do the trick. Once all my users log off I'll try SFC, then install a bunch of service packs and hope that the increased security doesn't hose my system (like it did on the FIRST install)...
