My problem is that I am suddenly not getting sound on my computer at all. Flash animations play, the video motion works, but there is no sound. Music clips in Multi-Media and Real Player "play" (the bar moves), but again, there is no sound.

All the appropriate blocks are checked under the Multimedia category in my control panel as far as I can tell. All cable conections are secure, the speaker lights are on, and the sound card is not defective.

Somehow I must have screwed up on some setting somehwere. There no longer is a volume icon on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen as there used to be. How do I get this to appear on my tool bar again and get my sound back??

This is SO frustrating, and I'm totally clueless at this point.

Any help in fixing this would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
~ Susanna44

Check under system properties and hardware, device manage, sound, video ang game controllers. I would delete everything under this tab and reboot, BUT that can be risky if the driver are not in windows (most are). To be safe before doing this make sure you have the drivers for the card. Also one card can have many entries under this category so delete all of them. Alternatively you can try to replace the driver if it has a exclamtion point on the item.

Is your main volume "Muted"??

start -> Control Panel -> Sounds

Thanks Ghanneh ~

The volume IS muted, but it is gray, and won't allow me to access it in order to turn it up. This is one thing that is so frustrating! I can see it, but I am unable to select it.

Maybe you could try to reinstall the driver for your sound card! If this doesn't solve the problem post again! and i will search more info on the problem!
