Hiya

I got an old file needs converting for a customer - its a sam file I believe from Lotus Amipro - customer insists anyway and insists I convert it! Explained that app was ditched long before my time and all users were informed to back up to current apps but nothing done. anyone.help.please!

I think Samna or Samna word is the program lotus bought and created lotus wordpro from.

Im using smartsuite millenium edition (9.5) and it shows samna word in the files of type list that wordpro can import from/export to. I have no idea if it would work with your file or not. If it would, you might be able to use wordpro to open it and then save it as an ms word file-no idea how much formatting would disappear in that process.
(And I suspect that "translator" is not in the standard install, you probably would have to select it from a list in a custom install when you installed wordpro.)

older versions (than 9.8 or 9.7) of smartsuite are available very inexpensively on ebay.

you're right, I was wrong .sam appears to relate to some version of word pro. wordpro .sam files also show up in files of type list.

Also found an online conversion service, have never used it, no idea if it would work.

You could try freeware, shareware searching for file viewers or file conversion utilities.
