Hello all! Im having problem opening a mailbox. Im getting "Unable to expand the Folder" "The set of folders could not be opened"

By mistake I deleted a user that was the NT Primary account for that mailbox. I re-created the user account exactly as it was on NT. Then in Exchange I set that user account as NT Primary Account for that mailbox. Outlook wont open it giving me the errors mentioned above.

Any Ideas how I can open that mailbox?

Please Help!
Thnx

Try deleting then re-creating the outlook profile.

Post back,

Iain

Ok, I did that and no Luck. Here is what I'v been doing so far.

1. I re-created the NT Account
2. Went to Exchange and for that mailbox I set the Primary NT Account pointing to that user account.
3. I login to the workstation with the new user account. (Im running Windows 2k and my exchange is 5.5)
4. In Outlook I set the mailbox and server name.
4. When it tries to open mailbox I get error message. Unable to expand the folder.

Any other ideas?

OK, this one isn't looking too good at all.

Now, change the Primary NT acount to your Permissions Admin usually Administrator or something. Make sure you bounce your server and sycronise your Domain accounts. Sometimes, just sometimes this might help. Log into a different PC using this account, connect to the mail box.... and prey :)

If that doesn't work, and unless someone else can think of anything then I would use ExMerge to extract the mail to a PST file. You can delete the mail box and re-create it make sure you make a note of all the settings. Then import all the mail from the PST file.

Hope you get it sorted,

Iain

I would immediately go for the second option, the PST file.
It will save you a lot of time. It takes longer to post this and read all replies then to exmerge, recreate and import again.

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.
Free Tip: The F1 Key does NOT destroy your PC!

Permission changes to mailboxes take up to 2 hours to synchronise by default. There is a reg setting that can be modified to reduce this delay, there seems to be no issue with having it as low as 5 minutes.

If you don't have a lot of users that would be disrupted you can restart the server to make the change take effect.

Just go into NT server manager, highlight your PDC then File (i think) and Sychronize entire domain.

You don't have to restart the server.

Thanks Spirit, wish I would have known that years ago.
Is there a Server Manager utility for 2K server as well for when I upgrade?

Urm, still running NT4 sorry... 2003 later this year tho! But never to let things beat me;

Active Directory Replication May Not Work Using Windows NT 4.0 Server Manager in Windows 2000 Domain

Users and Group Replication Is Not in Synchronization with LSA Changes

So I guess if MS have fixes for it, it can be done :-D
