I recently setup an RS6000 7043-150 to dual-boot AIX 4.3 and 5.1. I have been asked to transfer the IBM C compiler from the 4.3 installation to the 5.1 installation. Is this possible? If so what steps would need to be taken? Also is there a freeware alternative?

You can get GNU C from
To transfer it from one system to the other you would probably have to deinstall / reinstall (unless anyone knows differently) - I wouldn't fancy trying to move individual files !!

The AIX C compiler is optimized for RS/6000 hardware and will work better than the gnu c compiler. I once tried to compile an MQSeries application supplied by IBM with GNU C because I didn't want to bother with installing the IBM C compiler and licensing it. However, the program would not compile under GNU C and I ended up having to install and license the AIX C compiler anyway.

u don't have to do anything on aix 5.1 to run c compiler.go to directory /usr/vac/bin and there is a file of name replacecset.execute the file
#./replaceCSET
Now type cc on hash prompt.
i hope this resolves ur problem
